Dubai. May 02, 2017. Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA), the governing body of Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), today recognized and honored 13 clinical facilities for their innovative initiatives and top safety standards within the free zone, which have made a positive difference to the lives of patients.
Launched in January this year, the Dubai Healthcare City Authority Excellence Awards 2017 highlights the work of clinical facilities in DHCC that have demonstrated a combination of exceptional quality standards, innovation and vision.
The award winners were recognized at a ceremony on May 2 in DHCC in the presence of His Excellency Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director General, Dubai Health Authority; His Excellency Khalid Al Sheikh Al Shamsi, CEO, DHCA; Dr Ramadan AlBlooshi, CEO, Dubai Healthcare City Authority-Regulatory (DHCR); members of the DHCA board and leadership team; clinical partners, and senior government officials.
Speaking at the ceremony, His Excellency Al Shamsi, said, "Initiatives such as the Dubai Healthcare City Authority Excellence Awards honor clinical facilities that have significantly contributed towards innovative practices and initiatives to improve safety in patient care, and to encourage other clinical facilities to follow suit. These facilities include hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies, outpatient clinics and clinical support services."
He added, "The initiative contributes to the development of the health sector in the emirate; alleviates the suffering of patients; and improves the overall health of the community. To ensure these outcomes, it is a shared responsibility, a continuous pursuit of excellence, and ultimately, a collective achievement."
The inaugural edition had two awards - 'Healthcare Innovation Award', which showcased innovative practices and projects in patient care, and the 'Outpatient Clinical Quality Award' which recognized outpatient clinics that have achieved continuous high compliance with the outpatient quality standards of Dubai Healthcare City Authority-Regulatory, the independent regulatory body in DHCC.
The 'Healthcare Innovation Award' had three recipients and the 'Outpatient Clinical Quality Award', 10 recipients. The first place for the 'Healthcare Innovation Award' was awarded to Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital - Dubai for introducing surgical treatment for intractable epilepsy in adults and children that has drastically improved the quality of life for those suffering from epilepsy; it is the UAE's only comprehensive epilepsy program which deals with and manages complex epilepsy surgery cases.
The second place was awarded to Mediclinic City Hospital for its prevention program of Severe Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; ROP affects premature babies and leads to blindness in a matter of weeks. The program, designed according to international best practices, has had a huge impact on infant safety and quality of life.
The third place was awarded to Dr. Majdi El-Halik Paediatric Physical and Mental Rehabilitation Center, for being the first of its kind intensive multidisciplinary and holistic rehabilitation center in Dubai Healthcare City for physically and mentally challenged children.
For the 'Outpatient Clinics Quality Award', the 10 winners were: Child Early Intervention Medical Center; Dubai Gynecology & Fertility Center; HearLife Clinic; German Limbtech Orthopedic Technology; Emirates Integrated Medical Center; Magrabi Eye Hospital – Outpatient Surgical Clinic; Eye Consultants; Primavera Medical Center; Uro Diagnostic Clinic; and The Family Therapy Clinic.
Dr AlBlooshi congratulated the winners, commenting, "Today, we honor innovative practices which have positively impacted the health of our communities and improved the quality of care. In doing so, we demonstrate our commitment to raising the bar of excellence by placing excellence and patient safety at the heart of our work. The Excellence Awards is indeed an opportunity to bring the remarkable work being done by our partners to the forefront of the health sector. Through the Awards, DHCR demonstrates the quality of healthcare in the free zone and its focus on comprehensive, innovative regulations and international accredited standards."
The winners were selected by an independent judging panel which consists of five members from the Dubai Quality Award judging panel. To be eligible, clinical partners had to be operational in the free zone for more than a year.
During the ceremony, DHCA also honored more than 20 public and private strategic partners.
